I have had my car tax disc stolen -I am applying for a new one but what do I do in the mean time?am I covered?
Answers:
If the incident has been reported to the police & the car is clamped or you get a ticket then you need only give the Incident report number & it can be easily checked with the police.
You need to report it to the police and keep the crime reference number. That way, you will have a record of it. With such a record, you are unlikely to have legal problems.
When dealing with bureaucracy, always keep records!!
Contact the DVLA and ask them.
Call your local police office and explain what happened,, they'll tell you where you stand.
I think you may have to buy another one and wait to get refunded tho'
Good luck.
you are covered - police should have access to the DVLA database, but that doesnt mean a copper may not choose to do you..
see the DVLA website.
Technically it is an offence for failing to display a valid vehicle excise licence (tax disc).if you've applied for another one.then no worries..when the police make a check on your vehicle registration number, it will tell them that the vehicle is taxed..and all of your insurance details!!
If the disc takes a while to process, you should get an official notice to put on the windshield. If you do get clamped or fined, I'm sure you could appeal it and avoid the cost. The registration would bring it up as being taxed
How did it get stolen? Why just take a tax disc?
best thing to do is inform dvla an the local police an see what they would recomend.
my m8 had his stolen, but because he had nowere to park his car he parked it out side his house. the police done him for not displaying a tax disk,
even tho its one the system as stolen but the car was still taxed.
Inform the DVLA and ask the police for advice. That way you will more be better informed as to what right you have and it could stop you getting into a heap of trouble with the law.
Some B's about aren't there? Good luck to you.
Have you reported it to DVLA and the police? If not do it. You cannot and should not drive a car without a tax disc displayed.
Add the crime number / reference & get a duplicate asap, it will not guarantee you don't get summonsed, but is good mitigation
If i remember right you report it to the police and they then give you a letter confirming it has been reported stolen. you send this to the DVLA with an application for refund of the remaining months. Then you apply for a new one.
Normally you can be fined about £200 for non display of a tax disc but the police should be able to cover you for this after you report it stolen.
Why would anyone want to steal a tax disc? Another question.
Its called a tag, its in the computer(called MDT Mobile Date Terminal ,all enforcement have em), that its paid your OK, if you get pulled over they run a make on the vehicle and it will come up that your paid no big deal ,go to the dmv Department of Motor Vehicles and they will give you a new one , but if you don't u will get pulled over for not displaying a current tag, and they will run a make and you will get a fix it ticket, don't leave messages on the car the parking patrol will also run a make on the vehicle and will not give it a ticket they are not stupid , your OK and don't worry about it get one when you can, OK, take care
