When the key is turned its like the engine is starting but it doesnt.?

sound like a cranks, but doesn't start to me. It's one of 3 things. Fuel, spark, or compression. Listen for the fuel pump is it coming on? Hook up a set of gauges to test fuel pressure. Perform a spark test. Use a spark tester or equivalent, disconnect a plug wire and see if spark is created when the engine is cranked. Be careful, coils can create upwards of 80KV! Don't get shocked! Finally use a compression tester to check compression.
It doesn't sound like a starter problem to me, based on your description of the engine sound. If you did have a starter or starter solenoid problem, you'd only hear a clicking noise
after you turned the key. Once the starter engages the flywheel, it should sound like the entire engine wants to fire.
You might have a flooding problem if the engine wants to turn over but doesn't fire up. Try not to pump the gas pedal too much before turning the ignition. Allow enough time for the excess fuel to evaporate (at least 15 minutes) and try it again.
If you haven't flooded the engine, then you might have a problem with the sparkplugs or distributor. Without fire from the sparkplugs, the engine will try to turn over but nothing else will happen. This may be a job for a mechanic.
Whatever you do, don't keep trying to start the car without some idea of what's wrong. You'll eventually wear down the battery and possibly damage the starter.

do you mean that the starter is spinning (zooming) but the motor doesnt turn? if so its the starter drive , if not i think i'll need more info
