Mondeo Automatic Tdci- no gears.?
Answers:
First check the transmission fluid level . Then check the selector linkage to the gear box.On this box 1/2 are operated by one clutch and 3/4 by a second clutch inside the gear box.By driving the car home you will have overheated the gearbox causing lack of drive.First 2 are the only simple options you have otherwise its a transmission overhaul.Cost around £900 plus vat.Sorry Mick Uk.
sounds deffo like the automatic clutch has gone complete
you need a replacement
ouch , it will hit your pocket too
Its sounds like the clutch has gone, and wit a auto clutch go luck mate, get rid of it when fixed, better buyin a german or jap car more reliable
Auto gearbox kaput. No real solution apart from replacement, which will cost you more than the car. You would probably get one from a car breaker people, but you would still have the cost of fitting.
Best come clean - hands up - mia culpa, and start again.
start by checking the automatic transmission fluid, there will be a dip stick, the engine must be ticking over. The gear box needs oil to drive
Sounds like its out of auto fluid , you will find the gearbox dipstick at the in the engine dept userly on the right hand side of bulkhead it goes down to the gearbox fill to mark on stick you have to fill through the dipstick tube the auto fluid comes in a bottle with thin tube provided you will need about 5 bottles . when you have filled to mark on stick run until hot the check again it Will go down, top up to mark . you should then have all gears if not your torque converter is shot ,!!!OUCH
In a manual you have one big clutch plate, in Automatic's you have several small clutc plates that operate each gear, but you would still have felt them slipping prior to them giving up the ghost. Could be that your solonoids have seized although they normally leave you with first and reverse, or failing that the drive coupling inside the box has dis-connected. I'd go for the solonoids personally from what you described.
One other option is that your CPU cannot detect the gearbox any longer. If the connection was damaged it may have detected some but not all gears, that may now have lost all contact. The gearbox would still have tried to select 3rd while your driving when it was partially working as it's programmed to disconnect from second at a certain pressure/speed etc. but if it can't detect the top gears then it can't engage them. This is likely the cause if you could drive it normally in 1st and 2nd only when it was working.
