Can anyone point me in the direction of a campaign against the disgusting prices charged in service stations.?

Airports are another daylight robbery haven.

Yeah, over there.
Buy a tupperware and flask: fill the first with sarnies and the second with your choice of beverage and keep hold of your hard earned. Vote with your wallet man!
Hop on public transpo! Is not bad, depending on where you live. But a pass and no more griping!
sorry to say it but organisation prior to journey works for me
Get a grip.

Gas is still cheaper than milk, and milk is a "renewable resource".

We are going to run out of oil sooner rather than later, and if you believe in the free market, it's price should only go up as it becomes rarer.

Convert your car to biodiesel (renewable), or buy a bicycle. It doesn't matter how much you whine, the price isn't going to go down!
walk, but then you would moan that your legs ache!!
Why not pull up in the car park, do a google search for local pizza delivery, on your laptop, or go in and ask for a local phone book, and call for a pizza, giving your car reg, and location in the carpark, as all services have slip roads, onto normal roads by the motorway, (for staff, deliveries) and have a pizza delivered to the car park of the services, and eat it as, brazenly as possible.
people need someone to help if you check out clean diesel fuel this will give you some idea the government and politic ans make to much money from oil to let you use sources of clean burning renewable fuel tell all your friends
yep. its called read your service manual and fix your car yourself.
I found one: www.boycottgasoline.com

So aside from circulating emails and a few protests (mostly by truckers), Americans are mostly doing what they do best: whining about the problem and not doing much of anything else. ;-)

But seriously, the problem's more complicated than what most people realize. And it's definitely more complicated than what's being mentioned in news media (liberal or conservative).

As everyone (hopefully) knows, oil is a limited resource. As it grows scarcer, much to the delight of commodities investors, prices will go up. I don't anticipate prices to ever go back down significantly. However, what we're experiencing now isn't so much a shortage as hype. People are anticipating the shortage and accepting the new prices. much like I did just a couple sentences ago. Since the big dot-com bust half a decade ago, the commodities market has been one of the most popular places for wealthy investors and investment firms to "get rich quick." Much like the Enron scandal and the related fake California power "shortages" from several years ago, commodities investors and the oil industry are milking the market through the use of fear and misinformation. You'll know when the hype has validity when you start seeing all the other products that are either made from oil (all plastics, synthetic materials in your clothes, carpet, asphalt, pesticides, etc.) or rely on oil (production and delivery of agricultural goods, metal, etc.) start to skyrocket in price. In the meantime, it's only the world's elite up to their usual stunts -- milking the working class and the poor while creating elaborate fictions to hide their actions behind. (Sorry for the cynicism.)

If you're appalled by gas prices, then there are several things you can do:

1) Drive patiently and responsibly. Accelerate from a stop slowly. Watch the road ahead of you and start to decelerate earlier in anticipation of stopping. (Sometimes a red light might turn green before you get there, saving gas and wear on your brakes. Oh. and brakes are made from oil.) Drive the speed limit or slower. Consolidate your errands into 1 trip, and organize your route to reduce driving time. Keep your tires properly inflated. Only use the air-conditioning when absolutely necessary. (If driving in town, roll the windows down instead.) Lastly, convince everyone you know and your entire community to adopt these basic gas-saving tactics. After all, most people certainly don't drive this way..

2) If you don't already own one, buy a more fuel-efficient car. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of oil to manufacturer (plastics, synthetic materials, etc.) and deliver a car. so you're using oil to save oil. Hopefully the net result is a savings.

3) Join a carpool. It's a great way to meet people and make new friends. It also saves miles on your car and lots of gas if done regularly. You can also start using the carpool lanes if you live near a big city.

4) Use public transportation. Sadly, many people have to lose their media-induced fear of poor people, minorities, and immigrants to do this.

5) Ride a bike or walk.

6) Most importantly (and most frequently overlooked) -- consume less in general! How do those goods make it to the store? How do those goods make it to your home? Transportation wastes a lot of oil. Heck, only in the "developed" world do we waste oil to fly bottled water overseas. On top of all that, most of our goods are made with oil. Look at all the plastic and synthetic materials around you!

(How many of these have you done with regularity in your life? I'm 6 for 6, although it's taken a lot of effort to change my lifestyle.)

A lot of people chant that we need to cut our dependence on foreign oil. If they really mean it, then they need to do more than protest at the pump or gripe to their government leaders. Instead, they need to look at every aspect of their lives and change their entire lifestyle and culture.

Just my $3.259/thought.

Discusting prices in service stations? What about gas prices? Dentists? Lawyers charges? Insurance? The list is endless - Stop complaining, it's an open market, it's a system which we choose to live in. The prices are set by demand - if you don't like what your mechanic charges you, go to another mechanic, or do it youself. BTW, mechanics are making the least money from those I mentioned.
Yes, go to a Supermarket, or better still liddl or morrison's, who are cheaper than cow's milk :-)...
Why don't you add to the list banks. I tell you banks are worse to any of those things. They take some much of our money on interest. Then I will be with you seriously all the way.
dunno bout service stations but airport shops charge loads cos their rent is alot higher than in normal shops. or so they say!
