How many brake pipes does an Astra have & what should it cost to replace them?
Answers:
at least 4. £15 for the roll of pipe + mechanics time, about 3 hours, its an easy job to replace them if you have a friend who knows how, try doing it yourself its more fun and cheaper
about 12 pipes about 100 pounds to replace all of them
4 flexys about 10 to 15 pound each.
metal not sure but bloody not cheap
copper line £25 flexy lines about £10 each then you need ends as well (screw in bits) plus flareing tool brake fluid and bleed the system so to do whole car anything from £100 up wards .
do not think because you have plastic coated pipes on your car that they will not corrode because they do it just takes longer to notice them corroding
Brake pipes 4
Brake hoses 4
Greedy M.O.T. station 1
How much have you been quoted for the job, it should be about £130 plus vat, but best advice i can give you is take it for another test at a different test station, if they fail on the same thing then you know they definitely need doing, if not then you could save yourself some money by double checking, i have a 1992 Astra and the brake pipes are fine on mine.
I answered a similar question to this a few weeks ago and got best answer.
