Answers:
Sounds like a faulty crank or cam sensor the engine is going into limp home mode. You need to get a code read out to confirm most decent garages have that sort of kit now.Regards Mick UK
Your engine management computer is indicating a fault on an engine component.
It has switched to "get you home "mode.Get it analysed by code reader as soon as possible before damage occurs.
crankshaft sensor is a possible cause, it could be that the wiring is fouling in the cam belt area
I certainly can't speak to your particular car or situation. But I have been having this trouble for awhile now. I just spent in access of $1,000 and it was still coming on. So I made my mechanic dig until he found the problem --- which was a computer. It needs a new one.
According to him, a car has two computers. One controls the alternator and the other one body accessories. At least that's the case with my car. In my case the former needs replacing.
But I think the other one may also need replacing as the lids to my lamps come up unexpectedly and I can't get them down.
At any rate, it indicates a problem that could make your alternator go bad among other things. So I suggest you dig around until you find a mechanic who can and will find the problem.
While it could be something simple like a loose gas cap, it also could be something that could cost you a lot of money long term.
