I went passed a CCTV van going slightly over the limit. Will I get a speeding ticket?
A friend told me she was caught speeding by one of these and received a ticket.
Answers:
i think the van you mean is in fact looking for out of date car tax. you should be ok.
yeah you might do, but I went through a red light once and the camera flashed, but I never heard anything from it.
I doubt it. They don't measure speed.
The speed limit is the limit. If you are going over it for any reason the officer has every right to stop you. The CCTV van can get the picture and you can get a ticket.
The allocation of speeding tickets is a lottery out of a hundred offenders caught only some will receive a ticket which is mainly due to the workload of the Police administration at the time, they usually have a back log and it usually takes around 8-weeks to receive the ticket. Unfortunately the process with offenders caught by speed guns is somewhat different and I believe the Officer that has caught you actually processes the data therefore the ratio of tickets issued is much higher if not 100%. I know this as I have had several tickets and had the pleasure of making hundreds of pounds worth of donations to the Police's Christmas party fund
normally there is only a 10% allowance. so 33 would be ok but not 37
A (factual!) summary of all the above answers:
IF it were a CCTV van, you won't get a ticket - they don't measure speed, however, IF it were a speed camera you will very likely get a ticket as you were well over the speed limit (more than the 10% allowance normally given).
In either case, it's hopefully made you think about slowing down a bit - without sounding like a saint, it's not just the safety aspects you've got think about, but the costs - £60 fine and increased insurance premium. not worth it ;-)
