How do i remove a speed limiter from my 1992 honda prelude,2.2litre engine as it only does 120mph at the mo?
Answers:
To all the people complaining about the speed: SHUT UP! Did steph ever say this was to be used in downtown traffic? Ever heard of a 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile dragstrips? Educate yourselves before opening your pie holes!
Anyway, you need to remap the ecu computer chip. The engine management is always conservative on a Honda that's why they last forever.
Invest in a heavier clutch, I had a 92 lude' and once the horsepower got above 250, I kept burning up clutches after hard launches.
Enjoy the performance of your car and ignore ignorant people.
Forgive my ignorance, but isn;t the speed limit on major roads and motorways 70mph? Why do you need it to go at 50mph above the speed limit? wanting to lose your licence a lot quicker too? SPEED KILLS
a hammer
What makes you think a 'limiter' is fitted?
Limiters are fitted to diesel engines to stop them over revving.
The only possibility of getting higher speed out of it is to alter the engine managment chip if one is fitted
Fit a decent driver!
Is this car in Japan? You could check. I dont know bout the hondas, but on the Nissan (Silvia's) there was a 2 wire sensor on the transmition near the rear. On the Nissan cutting this (open) made the computer think your are not moving. Thus the computer would not cut the power to the fuel pump ever.
it goes fast enough for the roads
in fact the roads are too congested to go anywhere near the speed limit
Why? would ANYONE want to go faster than 120mph in a 1992 honda?
I highly doubt it can do 120 mph.. maybe down hill.. with something behind it.. pushing..
Question - What RPM is your engine at when doing this speed? Perhaps the gearing is pitched a little short, to ensure the car gets up there quickly, but it might not be able to go any faster, if your revs are at the red zone on the tachometer. Is it a VTEC engine? If so, I'd ask if the VTEC system is engaging properly.
the reason it has a speed limiter is because IT IS ILLEGAL TO GO OVER 70mph EVEN ON MOTORWAYS.
There's no need to drive this fast.. someone Will get hurt, usually someone completely innocent.
So STOP BEING A TOSSER and think about other road users, its prats like you that kill people.
When I know why you need this speed limiter removed, then I'll have the correct answer. Other wise make plans with your undertaker.
I am assuming that the car is a Jap import. If so, the best way to have the limit removed is by having the injection system re mapped. I know that some of the Hondas had a system on the speedo head but i am almost certain that re mapping the injection system will solve this. I had an integra type r which also had to be re mapped. No more limiter. Crazy car.
What speed-limiter? You twat. It's old and knackered, and probably not been properly serviced for years, and now it's being driven by a numpty like you. Berk!
My friend has a civic si..he has an MSD ignition on it..i think he said that's what it was for..you might want to look into that though.
I doubt if it has a limiter on it.
Are you 'hitting' the limiter - ie. you can repeatedly get to 120 an it just goes no furthar.
Speed limiters are usually only fitted to newer cars.
If it is limited in some way - getting an engine ECU remap, or replacing the 'chip' to delimit it will have the desired effect.
£30 on ebay for a DIY "super chip" or £500 for a pro remap.
ps. Speed does NOT kill. Not being able to drive does..so does showing off to your mates, impairing your skills through drink & drugs, having an unsafe vehicle or misjudging conditions etc. If speed alone killed.then why isn't there more deaths on the road?
I hate the anti-speed brigade with a vengence, bunch of overly PC, tree hugging, pseudo environmentalist that believe media and government hype. Just utterly, utterly pathetic. Get sone FACTS before spouting off. The KSI data used for the 'speed kills' campaignes was obtained in part during the 1970's.
Hang on, hasn't car safety design, 'pedestrian proofing', and other advances been made in the last 30 years? Uh, huh. And was that 'data' obtained scientifically - NO. The impact speeds were based on driver & police ESTIMATES. Now go away an get something better than just repeating what you've heard..look for the proof!
If your car is an import, it is limited to 112mph (180kph). Go on eBay they do little de-limiters for imports for about £30. This changes your speedo reading to MPH so you might need a new face (www.importsolutions.co.uk). They are easy to fit but require some wiring, an auto electrician would be a good idea.
UK cars should not be limited, however if it is then the ECU will require a re-chip.
ha ha!. see you in Casualty buy the way you cant drive at 120mph you may think you can but you cant your not in controll of the car its in controll of you no matter what you drive remember this!.
POWER IS NOTHING WIHTOUT CONTROLL!.
YOU MUPPETT!.
that old car doesnt have a limiter. its only a 4 cyl. and it sounds like your car is bone stock. pimp it out. then you can go faster. or you might like the prelude si with 4 wheel steering.
i too am addicted to speed so i wont have a go! to cure this all you need is a superchip which goes in the ecu which ultimately changes the way the ecu thinks and will get rid of that nasty limiter those preludes are good for 150mph just so you know
Use a Spoon chip for the ECU, it removes the speed limiter. Or you could get an Apexi or Pivot speed meter which interupt the VSS signal.
