Why do planes seem to stop mid air and not fall?

Answers:
DEAR WE16,
It is an optical illusion,,,,do not fear..all is well
I don't know but it freaks me out everytime. I hate planes.
I'd say add more cabbage. Its usually two parts cheese to one part vinegar.
You mean HELICOPTERS, right?
I promise they don't stop, or they would fall. They appear still because or the angle you see them, and the distance between you and the plane.
Well, I don't know that they ever do stop in mid air. By definition a plane is a craft that requires forward motion to get air moving over a curved wing to produce lift and therefore not fall. Could you be more specific?
Planes do not stop in mid-air..if they did they would stall then fall.

I love flying.
