Why does my 98 clio sound loud and my exhaust is not the problem its s reg 1.2 litre its like s tank help??:?

It could be a number of reasons you should 1st check the oil level if thats ok it could be the tappets or cam shaft so I would advise you to take it to the garage for them to take a look.

Its difficult to diagnose with out hearing the car but it could be a number of things. To discount the exhaust, have the car running at idle speed and get a cloth, enought to cover the rear of the exhaust. Then hold the cloth over the exhaust briefly and listen for any leaks in the system. If you are convinced that the sound is coming from the exhaust, it coulb be that the baffles are gone in the silencer and it needs replaced. The noise could also be coming from the air intake system and this could cause a noise similar to the exhaust.ie Induction Roar. Check to see if all the joints and clips are in place and that there is actually an air filter in the car.
my vectra was like that and it was a combo of 1 the car being old 2 a gasket being away in my exhast and 3 my cat being non existent

sounds like you have a wheel bearing gone if the noise only haperns when you are moving this can sometimes sounds like the exhaust has blown?
