I have a chevrolet astro day van 4.3 ltr what oil does it take?
Answers:
It should say right on the cap 5w30. Now if you live in a hotter climate or it starts using oil bump it up to 10w40 in summe mo. and back to 5w30 in the winter mo. Gm started doing this back in the mid 80's cause when they came down the line depending on where it was shipped to either had to fill it with 5w30 for the northern half of the USA and Canada and 10w40 for the lower half so GM decided the engines could run fine on just the 5w30 and in the owners manual add a footnote and thermometer indicating using the 10w40 in hotter climates
Motor oil.
it should tell you in the owners manual. if you do not have a manual call the dealership.
any goos brand of oil like exxon or mobile 5w30
5w30 is what they call out for, dont use cheap oil. get good stuff like castrol gtx
If it's a new one 5w30 old one 10w30.
A lot of multigrade.
I've had two vehicles with the GM 4.3; if maintained, it's a tough little mill with a lot of power and stamina. My S-10 Blazer with the Vortec VIN code W 4.3 has over 280,000 miles.
The specs in the book call for 10W-30. I've gone with that, and have used either Mobil 1 full synthetic or Castrol Syntec. Good luck with your van.
5w30 or 10w30
