Fiesta brake lights permanently on any ideas what the cause might be?

Answers:
As others have said. Its the switch on the rear of the brake pedal.
Allow the pedal to rise all of the way up, put your hand behind the pedal and push the switch back into the ratchet mechanism. Check that the light is still on and then slowly adjust until it goes off. When it does, push it in one more click (Stops the lights flashing on and off!).
To make sure it doesn't happen again, put a little hot glue on the mechanism or put a small amount of Aroldite on the ratchet side.
This is a problem that has plagued every Fiesta from the Mark 1 onwards (I have owned MK1,MK2,MK3, MK4, MK5. All the same!)
Brake light switch out of adjustment or shorted.
A foot resting on the brake pedal.
The brake light switch is bad.
Bad brake light switch. It's down on the brake pedal. Could be out of adjustment.
Could be a short in the Eletric loom,or the or water has got into the switch under the brake pedal,so sticking/
Brake light switch under the pedal is stuck
More than likely the brake switch which is located behind the brake pedal. Make sure the brake pedal itself is returning to the full up position. Sometimes the switch can pop out of the retainer and you can snap it back in. Typically when the switch goes bad it just doesn't work, either that or you have a short to power.
Sounds like brake light switch is either defective or stuck you will find it on the arm of your brake pedal under the dash you can check it very easy by unplugging it and operating it manually with a screwdriver etc.
This could be as a result of loose bolt and nut which are securing the switch linking to the brake pedal. If this is true, the switch or circuit becomes permanently in contact because normally, the adjustment is such that only when the brake pedal travels more than 5 mm does the switch or circuit come into contact that lights up the brake lights. If that is not the cause, try to spray WD 40, who knows its just because of rusty plunger.
