How do i jump start a car with an automatic gearbox?
Answers:
One thing that I know of, You can jump it with cables to insure you have enough power. Have someone turn the key to start position and hold it there while another person hits the starter with something such as a hammer or long pipe. Hit the stater in the front around where the brushes are. Most starters die due to the brushes being worn so bad that they no longer make contact with the armature, thus keeping the starter from working. A good bang on the thing will most of the time get it to work again for a while, or just one time. If it is one that has a solenoid switch on the fender well it will have a cable that goes to the solenoid and a cable goes on to the starter. In this case it could be the solenoid and not the stater. Jump out the solenoid with something such as a pair of pliers, and it will start if it is bad. Jump it from where the power comes into it to one of the little wires on it. Try both until you find the one that makes it work. If none of this works, you will have to have it towed. Good Luck!
You can't. Call the AA.
Edit: Oops, sorry - I'm thinking of bump, not jump. You jump it with jump leads, exactly the same as a manual vehicle, battery to battery.
can't jump start automatics
did you mean jump start or bump start.
replace the starter
RUN A METAL BAR FROM THE STARTER TO THE BATTERY
Use some ones car and use JUMP Lead to start.
You can't bump start it by pushing it.
You have to buy some jump leads and attach them to your battery and another car's battery with the engine running. You will be able to start the car in about 30 seconds.
put it in 2nd gear and and with the key on push it with a 2nd car
i have done it with mine
are you sure its the starter motor? nothing at the key could be a few things. battery, starter solenoid, the safety cutout on the gearbox.any one of these means no go.
first, check the battery is full. next, check the terminals and connections on the starter motor, on the battery, and if you can the PRNDL selector.
some cars (autos) can be started by towing them upto 30mph, ive never tried it, and wouldnt reccomend it, as youll have no power steering or brakes until; the engine fires.
and be careful, it may only be 12 volts, but its also in excess of a hundred amps and with that much power cables melt and catch fire if you cross the wrong wires coz you dont know what youre doing. the easy option is to phone the AA/RAC
you can`t.(bump start that is),you use jump leads.from your car battery to another fully charged battery.
you cant bump start an automatic.get it towed to a garage.
