what do your brakes have to do with the engine. you're not making sense to me.
It sounds like your engine is leaking a small amount of oil and it is dripping onto the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe. That is why you smell and/or see something like steam or smoke coming up. The oil is evaporating. Good luck. Pops
you could have an oil leaks, which is leaking onto the hot exhaust and this would cause the oil to burn and smoke
If something was changed, then there could be some oil or other liquid that was dropped on the block and it smokes and smells as your engine heats up. It should stop after it burns off though, if it keeps doing it when its hot open the hood carefully and just look for where its smoking. if its an exterior thing and you can see the stuff smoking its just still burning - if not take it back and have it checked
