My 1998 vw polo occasionally cuts out when breaking?
Answers:
You need to get the engine management chip reprogrammed and get the car tuned. Take it in to your dealer.
Cutting out would be considered breaking, wouldn't it? If you mean it does it when you attempt to stop by applying the BRAKES, that would be braking.
Take it in and have them check and set the idle speed.
I too drive a VW Golf. I had one years ago & it had the same problem. I have also heard of many other VW owners experence the same problem. I believe it's something to do with the automatic choke. All I do is let mine warm up to teperature & wait until the high reving settles down before setting off. The only other way is to put the clutch in sooner than usual when coming to a junction. I'm afraid that's all I know but recomend that you ask a mechanic. sorry.
Had a 99 Golf with the same problem, plus erratic idle. Cleaned throttle body to allow butterfly valve to fully close and let air bypass do its job. That was a year ago, no further problems. For the cost of a squirt of throttle body/carb cleaner and a rag, it's where i'd start. Hope this helps.
check the brake vacum pipes. they can leak. there was a safety recall on polos for this fault.
