Can a chinok helicopter lift another chinok underneath it?
Answers:
Yep, it can do it but I wouldn't recommend it. I would use a CH-54 instead. Empty weight of a Chinook is as Jester said around 25,000 lbs now if you put fuel in it or any other cargo it adds up quick. Most aircraft that are sling loaded are drained of fuels and any cargo is removed prior to the sling load so yes technically it would be able to be slung load but it would be a slow trip and you would be pulling a tremendous amount of torque so it better be a calm day with no wind. A small drag chute is put on the aft tail to keep the load from swaying or spinning in flight.
If your going to do it take pictures because its not something done or seen everyday. Good Luck!!
A link to Boeings site is below. (Boeing makes them).
Chinook.it can carry something close to 30,000 pounds of cargo, and weighs around 25,000 pounds, so the answer is yes it can carry itself.
