High Engine Revs?
Answers:
It the engine is fuel injected, the idle is controlled by the engine management computer and the idle speed is not adjustable.
The idle speed is controlled by the computer by opening and closing an idle air valve, usually located on or near the throttle body. It is possible this valve is stuck in the wide open position.
You can try removing the valve and cleaning it and the port with spray carburetor cleaner. If this doesn't work, replace the valve.
definitely, i would run some fuel injector cleaner and drive it on the highway. this will clean it out.
Sounds like it could be a problem with a sensor.
Sticky accellerator pedal? Spesh if unused for a while..?
It may be but its hard to say not knowing what make or model you have. If it has been sat then accellerator could be stuck or the tickover (idle) speed needs adjusting. Do the revs drop after a few minutes? After it fires up touch the pedala and see it the revs drop. Sorry I'm not a mechanic and wish I could help further.
this sounds like a vacuum leak. There are a couple of ways to check. The easiest is to cover the carburetter or air intake and see if the motor continues to run, if it does you have a leak.
To find it use propane or starting fluid, spray or hose the propane around the base of the carb and the intake manifold until you hear the motor level out. Once you find the leak try tightening the bolts, if that doesn't do it, replace the gasket.
i own a repair shop, and it needs drove for a while ,and then see if it still does it,and if so it may have had a sensor go out on it,setting is bad for one you should always at least start it once in a while,,but id try that, and see if that helps,,good luck, hope this help,s.
could be alot of things..most likely the idle air control valve is open.this valve is basically a controlled vacuum leak that very well could be the problem most likely though it just needs to be driven
