How do I go about importing a vehicle (car) from another country?
Thanks everyone
Answers:
matters where youre importing it to. Usually a car of that age has no problem being imported places (emissions exemptions and such). Check the local department of motor vehicles for the policy on it.
and dont upgrade a real mustang gt350. it will kill the value of it. If you want a fast gt350, start with a normal mustang and put a better motor in it (351 cleveland or whatever) and do some body mods to turn it into a gt350 clone. Itll be much smarter financially to do so, as the shelby cars are going up in value a ton in recent years.
i think you should get in touch with dvla, i exported a car, and i rang them first, they sent me the paper work i sent it back and it was easy, they give you lists of companies as far as i know, cant hurt to try
Kyle has the right answer - but don't expect the import process to be fast or cheap
go to automagazine.be, search for your car check the price, fly to Europe and get it yourself. PS it will be left hand drive! get a temporary number plate and 24 hours insurance to drive back to the UK , go to DVLA , pay the 17% tax and get your UK number plate!
You'll need to get with Customs at whatever country your going to.
Nice motor where you importing from?
Me and my partner use a company call Kingstown shipping ltd
in hull they do everything for you from picking the motor up from the seller and getting it through duty, taxation on the car as gone up so expect a high cost on the duty & tax (10% import duty + 17.5% vat) . You use to get away with low duty and tax on classics but they have twig on to a good money maker.. Insurance use RH (08701118963) good with classics, I've got a mustang gt convertible 2001 and i use MCE. if you get classic american mag they have loads of numbers in the back.
Take care Julie
