At what interval should i change my timing belt on my 1997 audi a6?

Answers:
The offical Audi time is 80,000 miles or 3 years. I would recomend doing it at 50,000 miles they are an expensive engine repair if the belt goes.
Every 30,000 miles
Doesnt anyone read the owners book? Call the dealer and ask. a broken timing belt is no go at best..
80 000 miles
60,000 and 120,000 and then so on but you deffinently want to have it done on time, it is alot easier to have a belt changed then it is to have the motor replaced.
80k is recommended by audi but you shouldnt really let it go more than 60k between changes. for a little investment you can save yourself thousands..
You don't say how many miles it's done but as it's nine years old I would think NOW would be a good time!
All the answers assume it is a petrol car.
Diesels range from 40k to 60k. or 4 years whichever is first.
Petrols range from 80k to 120k or 4 years whichever is first.
This assumes that you use an audi dealer who have to check the belt every 20k & advise u if it looks like it needs replaced.

The price to fit a timing belt is 10% of the cost of it breaking.
ill agree and say read the owners manual
Most vehicles say 60,000 miles to prevent any breakage in the belt. You should check with the Audi dealership and go by what they recommend if they are using OEM parts (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Replacing it any sooner is money you are burning in your pocket. Its better to wait until a few miles before the limit so you can replace it. If the belt did happen to break, then you can make Audi pay for the damage since they had faulty products in your engine. OEM parts are guaranteed to last to the miles they quote! Of course do not procrastinate on this issue since it will damage your engine extensively!
50000 given the age of the car and it should be checked for damage as often as possible
If you don't know when it was last changed, get it done now, make sure you have a genuine Audi belt and an expert to fit it, new engines are VERY expensive
