Why, for no apparent reason, does the engine on my 2.00 ltr Vectra GLS cut out?

My 2.0 ltr Vectra, GLS, cuts out at the most inoportune moments. The engine has been computer checked and no apparent fault has shown up on the computer. Has anyone else come up with, or experienced this problem? Help!

you don`t give a year but i`m guessing 95-02 model - if so its more than likely the throttle body and idle motor that need to be cleaned and reprogrammed - if there is no fault showing on the computer this the first route i would take - it may even need a new idle motor - an when cleaning lift off the throttle body completely to clean underneath and blow through the small breather pipe that goes from the cam box to the inlet manifold. and replace all gaskets
Yes many times, it's do with the sensors, you know the ones that give you useless information, well, when one goes it cuts out the engine. This normally happens when you go down a gear as you approach roundabouts and junctions!
You have to take it to a vauxhall dealer as they, apparently are the only to who have the machine that can read wot sensor it is!

PS there are about 70of these sensors and it is a fecking rip off if you ask me
How old is the battery?
If your battery has started to breakdown inside, this will cause the car to cut out for no apparent reason. The bits inside float around and cause a short or they break the contact and this causes the car to cut out completely.
I had this happen to me once and i changed the H T leads, Electronic ignition ans so on, when all it was was the battery.
Get it checked, you could save yourself a lot of money if it is the battery.
the idle valve is most probably clogged a common fault on a vectra
As a vauxhall owner of a cavalier and a vectra as well in the past, i would suggest that its your idle air control valve thats at fault here, its a common problem on the simtec engine management system, it can be cleaned with carb cleaner but more effectivley ultrasonically, however it will happen again i found in the past that the beat way was to change the valve, not second hand either as that will probbably be in the same condition, a new one will do the job, also as another person says the small pipe gets blocked up too
Take it back to where you had it checked and ask them to check the throttle potentiometer. It can cause the revs to drop, come back, drop again, cut the engine out. If that sounds familiar then we are on to a winner!
