How often a cam belt on a mercedes C180 should be changed?

I have recently bought a merc C180, 1997 with 70000 miles on the clock.. Its is in very good condition, looks well looked after, however the service book shows last service at 29000 from merc dealer. I am not sure when was the cam belt last changed, how often it needs to be changed and how much it would cost? The maintenance book dosent give any guidance. Any advice will be welcome. Thanks

Answers:
Mercedes dont have cam belts they are all chains and as such dont need replacing unless something drastically goes wrong
don't do it yourself- give it to the mechanic to do
Im guessing at 40,000 miles but I would get it changed for peace of mind.
DO I LOOK LIKE A MERCEDES SERVICE TECHNICIAN?? BUT I CAN GIVE YOU A GOOD ANSWER.REPLACE IT NOW SO YOU WILL KNOW IT'S GOOD! EVEN A CRACKHEAD KNOWS THAT.
Best to have it changed with your yearly service it tells you in the service book anyway
are you sure its a belt? i think it could be a chain check it out before stripping the engine,
Yes, change it now to be on the safe side. There are a number of factors that influence the load on the belt so nailing down an exact "time to change" is difficult; ~ 40k-50k is about right. As for the cost, a hell of a lot less than if it snaps.
They are chain driven on Mercedes
Cam belts should be changed about every 40000 miles , the price varies so much between garages , but at a guess £150 to £230
