My astra 1.6 1996 runs better when cold (more responsive) have had it serviced but to no avail! help!!?
Answers:
i own a repair shop, and it has a bad temperature sensor in it that causes it to run better cold than when hot,its not giving out the right signal to the computer so it cant adjust the settings so that it will run good when warm or hot,,just replace the sensor ,and it should be fine,, good luck with it,i hope this help,s.
Cooler air can help produce more horsepower.
I got a 1.6 Nissan 200sx 1998 and it did the same thing till i broke a rod on it and am in the procces of replacing the entire engine
Cold air is more combustible. All engines operate more efficiently when the air is colder.
It would be better for you to give more details so that ppl can run things through their heads and come up with possible solution. What's making you think that it runs poor? What's it doing wrong?
Yeah, my Astra loves cold weather, but it works nearly as well in the heat. Sorry.
More symptoms please? No symptoms,no cure.I have an Astra 1.6 sports 1998 and may be able to help. Also try www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.u. you can get lots of help there.
Have you made any modifications to the car? A K&N perhaps? As they often draw in too much hot air from the engine, removing it or sorting out a decent cold air feed may help
Which 1.6 is it? the 8v or the ecotec 16v?
Have the sensors checked as several things can cause this. A defective coolant temp sensor can cause this as well as an air intake temp sensor, etc. Reason for this is that they tell the computer how warm the coolant or incoming air is that the computer reduces the fuel to match the warmer environment as the engine warms up. This can cause the car to run poorly when warm as the temperature sensors when broken usually default to "cold" so the computer thinks that it is very cold and gives more fuel. A cold car needs more fuel and therefore this extra fuel is just what is normal when you are driving with a cold engine anyway. When it warms up though and is still getting the extra fuel it can't handle all of it and loses power. One other thing is the catalytic converter if you car is so equipped. When they start to clog up they can run good cold and as soon as they heat up the membranes inside swell and slow the exhaust flow enough to choke the engine down and cause it to lose power as well.
