I lost car key, where can I get a replacement?

I lost my citreon car key a year ago and moved abroad. Now I need use the car, where can I get a replacement?

Answers:
The dealership can probably provide it with the least amount of hassle. Be prepared to show ID and registration.

Many locksmiths can duplicate a car key, but it might take them a while to get the appropriate blank and codes.
Contact the nearest dealership or the manufacturer itself.
you could maybe go to a junkyard or a car dealer and see if they either have an extra one or if they could order one for you.
CONTACT THE COMPANY OR DEALORSHIP YOU BOUGHT IT FROM.
To a citroen store..if you can call it like that. You will propably need the number of your car which is written on the engine
Go to the Citroen dealer with the chassis number of the car and they'll be able to get a replacement. If it has a built in immobiliser it could work out quite expensive though.
contact a dealer, you didn't get one of those plastic replacement keys when you bought it? My dad redid the locks on his own by hand.(my daughter thew the keys in the trash and the store gave me the wrong keys). But the next car had the plastic key thing
Go to the dealership and bring your ID and title or registration. They'll use the VIN number to have a new key made. I had to do this for my BMW a couple of years ago and they had to order my key from Germany so it took a few days. Hopefully they can just make yours right there.
If it is the type of key that has the chip on it, prepare to open your wallet wide. If not, it shouldn't be too bad. Look on the "A" pillar (driver side front door) or through the windshield on the drivers side for the VIN, which will be a 17 digit combination of letters and numbers. Take that number, and proof that it is your vehicle (title, registration in your name or bill of sale to show it is yours and you aren't out to steal a car) to either a Citeon dealer or a good locksmith, and they should be able to generate a key for you.

If it is the computer chip type, after making the key you will be able to open the doors only, and you will have to have the car towed to the dealer to program the chip on the key to work with your car.
Been there an done that. I was visiting a friend and put my car keys I
inside the taco bell bag that had my lunch. When I was done eating my friend took the bag and threw it bag down the garbage shoot in her 12 story 125 unit highrise . Needless to say they were never recovered.

I had to get all the locks on my car replaced and new keys. The dealership wanted to charge me $400 for a new set but my mechanic went to a salvage yard found a totaled Honda and exchanged the locks. It was less than $100.
