Overfilled motor oil?
i rested the engine for a bit and came alive again, but still the engine warning light was on. is there too much pressure in the engine?how will i know the oil pump is broken?
any bit of help would be appreciated

Drain the oil NOW! What is happening is that because the level is too full the crankshaft is hitting the oil and causing it to "foam up" foam can't pump and lubricate and that is why the oil pressure has dropped and turned the oil light on. You have to get the level down to the full mark or you will burn that motor up. Never overfill and drive a car with oil as you can have just this problem. Also the higher oil level can often cause the front and rear seals to leak (expensive repair) as those seals are designed to hold in oil "vapor and mist" and not a flood of high reving motor oil being forced into them. You can drain the oil down to the full mark without removing all of it through the drain on the bottom of the engine and you should be fine providing you didn't drive it too long like that.
If it was just a little over.say a half a quart or so then this did not cause your problem..just a coincidence.look for an electrical problem
did the "check engine" light come on? if so that does not have anything to do with oil level,a little overfull does not hurt a honda.drain the oil,don't change the filter,add 3 qts,then disconnect the negative battery cable for about 20 minutes to re-boot the cars computer
If it was a little over the full mark it should not have caused what you describe. You have other problems if the light went on, eng got loud and died. How much oil did you put in and did you put it in the correct place?
Thats not a usual problem, by how much did you overfill it? If it was only a half quart or so, then that may not be your problem. Did you check the oil now? And did you check for leaks at the filter after the oil change? In theory the engine could be hydrolocked, but if it was running, I'd doubt it. Try to turn the engine over by hand with a 1/2 drive ratchet on the drive pulley. Pull the plugs first, see if you can turn it. If not, then the engine is seized. If not, you have to start looking somewhere else. remember, fuel, spark and compression is what you need. Good luck.
I wouldn't think a little over would have that bad an effect. Something has happened coincidentally with the oil change. Did you change the oil filter too?
I hate these modern cars. You may have to take it to a dealer to get an analyser to "read" the problem.
Overfilling by a little bit should not cause any problems. If you put a quart or two extra in, then I would expect problems. Assuming you used the correct weight oil, put the oil filter, filler plug, and cap back on, your engine was not already on it's way out, and you didn't do anything else, the only thing I can thing is something with the v-tec system (if you have it) as this relies on oil pressure to operate properly. FYI: Your oil pump would not fail because you used a little bit too much oil
drain all the oil out and start over-you most likely did not damage the oil pump but you can overheat the engine -have cyl. blowby or get some leaky gaskets. - the car will not rev- usually you have to be a couple of quarts over to get these symptoms
too much oil in the crankcase lets the crankshaft churn the excess oil, resulting in oil foaming. oilfoam does not lubricate like oil film. also the engine has hydrulic lifters which operate on hydrulic pressure, oil is not compressable, foam is. the lifters will be clacking and the engine oil pressure switch will be reading low. most engines can be 1/2 qt overfilled with out a problem. more than 1/2 can cause the above conditions. depending on how far and how high you reved the engine, permenet internal wear may have been caused. drain the excess oil, and do an engine oil pressure ck to verify your engines health.
over filling the oil in an engine can cause extra pressure and will eventually blow the valve stem seals / hydraulic lifters, drain the oil back out before it kills your engine bud. you will force oil into places it should not be, possibly covering sensors which could cause your management light issue and yes also cause the oil pressure switch if you have one to do the same thing.
the best thing to do is probably drain all the oil out and add new oil, im not an expert or anything but when i did the same thing my car would start smoking really bad and pulling while i was driving and i have a 96 accord so just check it out
the pressure of too much oil can cause a minute split in the gasket around the bit where you put the oil in. i did the same myself and had to get my dad to fix it.
how much did you overfill it?if maybe a pint or so shouldnt hurt it.i think something was about to go before you changed the oil.
as Mohavedes says, take note, he is spot on, you need to drain the oil to the proper level, or else! this happened to me!
Overfilling an engine does not cause excess oil pressure , but it can cause other problems wet plugs , excess smoke , i would of thought that the oil you used is to thin for that model , 20/40 would be about right . if you have an engine that has done a lot of miles and there is some play in your end shells, thin oil that you put in might lower your oil pressure enough for the oil pressure unit not to trip in .especially if its a bit worn as well, i would drain the oil and put the thicker oil in and see .it is not something that you can leave. failing that replace oil pressure unit its not expencive
