Lorry horror?
Now I realise that everything happens for a reason, so can anybody (especially truckers) tell me whether they think this sort of maneuver is a good idea and whether the annoyance caused to other mototrists is worth the tiny distance/time gained? Why does the lorry being overtaken not 'slow down a little bit' to let the other one pass? are you a motorist who gets annoyed by this too?
Answers:
Very annoying, however the lorry driver is on time driven mission, with his transport manager breathing down his neck to get there quicker.
Also, with the arrival of just in time production techniques, the vehicle has an allotted time, to the minute, to arrive at the depot or his company will face financial penalties if they miss this.
Alas the haulage industry is now a dog, eat dog world and drivers are no longer the knights of the road they used to be.
Its not too bad on a motorway but on a dual carriageway it annoys the hell out of me!
crazy, no doubt they stopped for 1/2 hr too
The first lorry doesn't realise he's being overtaken. He's too busy making a call on his hand held mobile, whilst eating his butties with the other...
I ususally gesticulate rudely out of the window to these guys once i have passed them. It makes me mad also.
If you have to drive 200 miles at 50 mph you will be 4 hours.
If you are sat behind a lorry doing 45 mph you will take 4hours 45 mins
So it's worth it
it is being discourteous to road users, and for that they should be shot.
sometimes overtaker trucker can't get past and is himself overtaken on the inside by the other silly trucker, that takes twice the time!
for a lorry to overtake another one it should only be done on a three lane motorway,it is a silly manouevre on a busy two lane motorway, when i used to drive them i didnt care about the times if i took longer to get to destination then i got paid more for doing less work.
The worst of it is that they pull out and then indicate. The simple solution is to overtake the lorry and stay in front of him til the next long hill. when you have a long line of vehicles overtaking you slowdown to about 40 mph and watch him go down through the gears.
lorries, class 2 are limited to 55mph, clas ones can do around 57, maybe 58. its all very well slowing down, but hauling 38 tons it can take 20 gearchanges and ten minutes to recover teh speed. lorry drivers are professional drivers, they know how long their vehicle is, to teh inch, and they drive incredibly close.
progression, ABC, always be creeping (forwards)
and no, i dont drive HGV's, my young brother does. i drive a volvo, and i dont care.im in the outside lane cruisiing at 80mph.
