Engine revving up when clutch is depressed fiesta 1.4 zetech s 1999.?
Now when you put the clutch down to change gear the revs shoot upto 3000 then gradually fall back to just over 1000 which is what its ticking over when statioinary! The car only needs to roll slightly when the clutch is down for the revs to shoot up!
any ideas?
thanks

do you know what an accelerator cable looks like ? invest in a can of wd/40 spray the accelerator cable at both ends liberally. manuelly accelerate the car from the engine, wait a few moments and problem should be fixed.
I guess the only cure for a depressed fiesta is to get it analysed!
Engine management overcompensation. Most likely the idle control valve. This valve closes and opens to recycle unburnt gases when decelerating - it gratually clogs up with carbon deposits, as this is the manual fault, not electrical you do not get the orange engine warning light coming on. Strip down the throttle body, clean all parts and reassemble. If this doesn't work it gets a bit more expensive. You might consider having the engine management read for fault codes, approx £40. Or the idle control valve replaced. If you have just bought it (less than 3 Months) the garage has a duty to repair the fault. It is an offence to sell a vehicle which is unfit for use on the public highway - this is clearly unsafe as the overrevving could cause you to shoot out in from of other vehicles of into the one in front. Make them sort it out.
