Best practice on changing a cam belt on a renault espace?
Answers:
sticky wicket really. they would have had to take the fan belt off to get access to the cambelt so 1). why wasnt it checked for condition. 2) why wasnt it replaced as a matter of course -like, what else didnt they replace while they were at it such as cam belt tensioner??!??!
Even so, your a bit high and dry as yes, they can snap at anytime but to wrap itself around and cause the cambelt to jump would strike me as poor fitment in the first place. fan belts haven't formed part of full services for a while as pretty much any service these days just involves changing the oil, wiping its **** and throwing it back outside. eor example, spark plugs on a new mini arent changed for 36000 miles and bmw brakes are no longer even inspected, let alone stripped.
You may have had some recourse at a renault dealership if they had carried out the work. Yes the employ the same level of pondlife as anywhere else, but at least they have manufacturer support
ask a mechanic
Probably cheaper..scrapping the car lol
CAM BELT KIT IS ONLY A BELT AND ADJUSTERS
THE WEAR AND TEAR ON A FAN BELT SHOULD HAVE SHOWN UP ON A SERVICE - AND WOULD HAVE BEEN INSPECTED ON A FULL SERVICE (IF YOU HAVE HAD ONE)
IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHETHER YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THE SERVICE SCHEDULES, BUT YOU WOULD FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO APPORTION BLAME OVER A FAN BELT AS THEY ARE PRONE TO SNAP AT ANY TIME, JUST A CASE OF BAD LUCK AS TO THEY WAY IT HAS ENDED UP, NORMALLY THEY EITHER SHRED OR JUST SNAP AND FLY OFF
SORRY PAL!
do not buy french cars in future buy a VW
This technique works equally well on all Renult vehicles:
1. Remove fuel tank cap, discard.
2. Place petrol soaked rag in petrol filler.
3. Strike match and light rag.
4. Run.
This works very well just be sure you dont turn the engine over after you take off the fuel cap or you might damage the engine.
