That's very hard to say. Military airports would be secret, in most cases. If you mean by commercial where planes can go, then some say around 13,000. Then again, you can land and take off on any US highway (that was a requirement when building the US highway system), so that would make millions 'airports' and there are private strips everywhere.
There are more than 10,000 airports around the world. Could be in excess of 15,000 including secret military bases.
