Is it possible to alter ignition timing on Vauxhall Astra 1.4 Petrol 1991.Pinking after head skim, Thanks?
Answers:
No its not ignition timing is calculated by the engine management system. It takes readings from a crank position sensor and a cam sensor.Depending on the VIN number some also have knock detecters in the cyl block.Regards MICK
Yes!
Has this NOT got a conventional distributor? If it has, a 1/2" spanner to undo the set-bolt on the dizzy plate, and slowly rotate the dizzy by hand, with the engine running, a little to the left, to see if that settles it, if the idle gets rougher and splutters, turn the other way, until it feels smoother. Retighten bolt, test-drive, adjust again as needed.
sounds more like a Charles 1 head chop more than a skim!
try using higher octane fuel first. altering the timing will make it as slow as f***
