I have a Jaguar XJ8 Sovereign The computer is showing 'gearbox fault'?
Any suggestions, am not using it
Live in West Midlands
Our local autogearbox centre is quoting around £2k for a recon box??
Have not got that sort of money available
The year of the vehicle is 2000 (W)
Hope some-one can help or advise
Answers:
You could try removing the gear box bottom pan and checking your gearbox filter,if it is full of debris cleaning it will perhaps resolve the fault. At the same time check the bottom of the bottom pan for any metal particles if these are found it indicates you have a multi plate clutch that has burnt out.If so then im afraid its a g/box over haul .£2000 if that includes removing refitting and testing is a fair price to pay.
Congrats. this is just the begining..

Check out the jaguar enthusiasts club - online or over the phone. I had the same car but older and the computer lied all the time! The club will have advice and mechanics to get quotes from.
yer... oooooooow.looks like your gear box is knackered mate.
I wish i could help mate? All i can advise is try posting this later on for a better response? You will get help, but sometimes it's down to the timing of a question on things like motors?
2k is a steep quote if it may only be an electrical fault?
your own fault for owning an old pile of crap ha ha
Take it to a GARAGE.
