Does anyone agree that more drivers are overtaking in the inside rather than outside lane nowadays? Louts!!?

I should add that this is only annoying in countries where you should drive on the left hand side of the road!!

Answers:
no i havnt really noticed it.then again im normally doing about 100.to fast to notice anything lol
I do that occasional, to prove a point more than anything. Too many ignorant drivers sit in the middle lane of motorways.

Twokay: fair enough if there's slower moving traffic in the lefthand lane, the middle lane is an overtaking lane after all, it isn't a lane for sitting in. My point is if I can safely undertake someone travelling slowly in the middle lane then clearly they should be the one is the left hand lane, not me.
yes
I agree, here in the UK it happens all the time, half of road accidents are caused by these brainless idiots.
what people are discovering is that there are not enough police to enforce the law, so just do what you want, whenever, wherever you want.
Agreed, and leave fog lights on all the time, cannot use mirrors, and what annoys me the most is when you let people out and they do not acknowledge it.
Actually it is annoying in countries where you drive on the right side too. It's also illegal in many areas. The side that you drive on isn't relevant.

It's not really an issue in Southern California since all the roads are crowded. You just pick a lane and go for it. In most of the US though it is illegal to travel in the left lane (outside lane). It is supposed to be used only for passing (overtaking). You can actually get a ticket for this. Again, since I live in SoCal it really isn't an issue but it is annoying when travelling.
Anonymous Dave: What point? That you can overtake in the wrong lane and be a danger to everyone else?

I sometimes drive in the middle lane, only because there are slow moving vehicles (ie: trucks) in the inside lane. There's no point for me to change back to the inside when there's another truck just up ahead. If you want to drive faster and overtake, there's the outside lane. Use that.
I used to drive for a living and there's nothing worse than someone just sat in the fast lane for no reason slowing an already long day up, i didn't like doing it but if people like me didn't do it there would be more congestion because of these fools doing 65 in the fast lane!
In recent times there has been a huge movement of South Africans to the UK and overtaking on the inside lane is standard and accepted practice there.
TwoKay75, what about dual carridgeways?

Fully agree with dave on this one I'm afraid.. too many drivers haven't got the foggiest when it comes to multilane driving.
Yes a lot more seem to but why are they doing so? If there's enough space for a car to "undertake" a car in the middle lane there's enough space for the car in the middle lane to move back into the left hand or "normal driving lane".

So which action is the most illegal? Both are counted as the same but the Police, if they chose to do anything, would pull the guy for undertaking because it's more likely to get a dangerous driving conviction.

That the jerk in the middle is either too lazy to drive correctly or too stupid to understand why they should use the middle and right hand lanes for overtaking only doesn't seem to make any difference. If you think about the middle lane driver, never returning to the left hand lane, the motorway might just as well be built with just 2 lanes: because if you tell the rest of us to follow the highway code and not undertake there is only one other lane to use.

It's not exactly difficult in cars with power assisted steering to overtake and return to the correct lane, or is it beyond the average British motorist?

I disapprove of the practice but if done safely why not?
Yes, move your dopey *** out of the fast lane..LOL
Yes, because there's more prats that sit in the middle lane while the inside lane is empty for the next two miles!
perhaps, 'cos turltes are hogging the fox's lane
