Landrover wobbling steering problem?
what is it?

Cool Sparky, you have a real car. A Defender. I wish there was a Land Rover section on this site. Defenders are vehicles with so much to offer. What you're talking about can be a few different problems. Check the fluid in your swivel balls. See, your average Toyota mechanic doesn't have a clue what that is. You have two bolts on each side. The bottom bolt is the drain and the top is the fill/ level check. What is the condition of the swivel balls? Are they scratched or smooth? They should be smooth. Look at your three tie rod ends. Defenders don't have replacable seals so if the rubber goes, you'll need to replace them. Check your pitman arm. That can be bent. Good luck and keep the Landi rolling. One last thing, look at your universal joints on your driveshafts.
loose nut behind the wheel
sounds like a ball joint problem, it needs to be checked out
Get it checked out at your local garage for yours and everyone elses sake, before someone gets hurt or worse, any fault with steering is very dangerous. cause could be worn wheel bearing, track rod, ball joint worn, wheel unbalanced, thats just to name a few possible problems.
Incorrect tyre pressure or your wheels need balancing.
I have come across this before with other vehicles. When you are driving along with your foot on throttle and at a constant speed you do not have this judder? If not, then I would look to your outer driveshaft joints, they may be worn, or possibly are just dry and need greasing.
They look like silver balls inboard of your front wheels, or in some cases have a canvas boot over them. If they are the boot type and this is torn, then you may have dirt and mud grinding them away.
some thing nice and simple. no ball joints, drive shafts or even tyre pressures. i would imagine its the brake discs that have warped, seeing as you say its when you brake, it must be a brake problem. i did work on landys for about 4 years, so i kinda now what I'm on about. good luck
You have a panhard rod bushings that are worn its a common problem with L/R.Thats the transverse rod that helps locate your front axle assy. Also check your steering idler box and steering joints for wear.Regards Mick
We should have a LAND ROVER section.
Or just use other Land Rover forums, such as landrovernet.com.
PS. You drive a cool car, Defenders are great fun off road.
