When they were first made.
Grapes of wrath, Depression, backs of car cut off
late 1920s ish in USA
Don't know when it made it out there
International were the first to introduce the first cab pickup truck in 1957.
before rocket launchers
The original Land Rover was a sort-of pickup, and that was introduced in 1948. There would have been larger vehicles with pick-up or flat-bed backs long before then (heavy trucks, some steam powered) - indeed I suppose many horse-drawn carts were effectively pickups without the engine.

In the 1960s there were pick-up versions of the Morris Minor and the Mini.
I would say back in the 1400's near closing time at the local pub.."sally was a good old girl.sally was a good old girl..whatever the request she did her best..sally was a good old girl !!!"
