Clunking sound when gear changes on Grand Cherokee Jeep?
It seems to happen when you ease off the accelerator to slow down (not brake), but then when you accelerate again, this tends to happen, not all the time, but enough times to notice.
Anyone else have this problem and have you overcome it?
Answers:
You probably need to have the Throttle valve cable adjustment checked by a technician that knows about a jeep, It tells your trans when to change gears and if its not adjusted right it can cause lots of problems like that
Take your vehicle to a private shop, non-dealership, and have them check the u-joints and have the REAR differential fluid changed, when the differential cover is removed, inspect the ring and pinion, but pay extreme attention to the spider gears, jeeps are notorious for the spider gears experiencing accelerated wear causing play in the rear differential that is typically heard way before you "feel" any difference!
I had one and never had this problem, is there a problem with the gear box?
As there is a lot of linkage in the gear chain, from the engine, to clutch, gear box, transfer box the to each of the driving wheels, sounds like a little wear, called backlash. However just check the universal joints on the prop shafts one could be dry.
driveshaft problem. or clutch.. have you checked your clutch fluid level..
Sounds like you are in bad need of a HUMMER.
