If it's been properly maintained, then yes, it's absolutely good. The XJ-SC's are rather unusual and rare; I'd definitely snatch it up.

I think you might be talking about the XJ6-Coupe, though. The XJS was introduced in 1976 with a 5.3 liter v12; the 4.2 is a straight six. The 4.2 is extremely dependable, and they're known for lasting upwards of 210,000 miles without a rebuild (though I wouldn't recommend it).

Either way, the two-door XJ6 coupes are rare and beautiful, and they've got the strong Jaguar straight-six mated to a Borg-Warner transmission. The transmissions are almost bullet-proof and only require rebuilding every 110,000 miles or so, and the engine every 120,000.

4500 grd is right on target for a perfect, low-mileage example of that particular car, at least in the U.S. So long as it's got a complete service history and you know it's been maintained well, go for it.

I work for a Jaguar specialty garage, so if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. The XJ6-C's can be solid and long-lasting cars if they're properly maintained--and their beauty can't be beat.
Get you a newer one dude! never drive a car older than yourself! LOL
They are not at all reliable however very beautiful cars. I would buy it in a heartbeat for 4500. Just don't rely on it to be your daily driver.
You can't go wrong with a Jag except that it guggles juice like mad and the tyres are especially expensive. The insurance will cost almost nothing through The Jaguar Enthusiasts club ( who will also answer all your questions technical and otherwise. Their mag has all jags for sale in it so makes a good comparison. /www.jec.org.uk
At that age get the gearbox checked / find out when the last overhaul was.if it goes.another £3k to fix it!!

Repairs will cripple you - so check service history, chassis for corrosion, brakes, exhaust..all the usual stuff that you don't bother with!!

If it's a good 'un - snap it up, cherish it. Never, ever put any gloop (miracle additives) in the engine oil that isn't meant to be there, get the underbody & cavities waxolyed (sp?) and pray for dry days / drive carefully!!
The engine and gear box apart from oil leaks were fairley reliable. The electrics were another matter they were made by Lucas known as the "PRINCE OF DARKNESS" because they were very unreliable.Suspension bushes wear out very quickly and the body is very prone to rust.£4500 is alot if the car is not in absolute mint condition.Regards Mick.
