I have a Full UK driving liensce , and want to ride a moped , I know I need to do a CBT, does this take one?
then I can start to ride a moped
Answers:
According to DSA (Driving Standard Agency) if you hold a full car licence obtained before 1st February 2001 you also hold an unconditional full moped entitlement. So you will be able to ride a moped under 50cc without doing a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training).
However, if you passed your test 'after' 1st February 2001 you must do your CBT (on completion you will receive a DL196 certificate).
The CBT training takes the best part of a day. It is good fun and you learn at your own pace. You start on quiet roads (or even in big car parks) and build up your skills and confidence. You learn all about legal aspects of riding, which protective clothing to wear, observations and general basic skills. You are assessed at the end of the day and are issued with your pass certificate (DL196).
If you want to ride larger bikes you will need to learn on those and take a practical test on that category of bike. In addition you will also need to do a Theory Test (35 multiple choice questions and a Hazard Perception test). To find out more why not visit the DSA website (www.dsa.gov.uk).
I hope this has been useful. Good luck, be safe and have fun!

when did uyou pass your test as if the moped is below 50cc then i was on the understanding you dont need a cbt for a moped under 50cc
i would check as i was under impresion that with a full driving licence you can drive a moped ie 50cc & under without a cbt,
over 50cc you have to take a cbt a day should do it dont know any one who has taken more than a day
yes it takes one day to do the cbt.
CBT takes as long as it takes for you to convince an instructor that you won't go and get yourself killed. Day should be long enough but someone on my DAS course took a day and a half.
yes
