After doing a Direct Access course could i handle a Ducati 749 or other 600cc??

Im 29(so more mature), 6ft 3 and built quite well(in other words not a feather weight) and i rode a 125cc yamaha rd with power valve for years & always borrowed my mates 250cc when i was a kid.
Been driving since i was 18 (11years) and have never fallen out of love with Bikes or Ducati's to be more exact. Now i can afford a nice bike i want one for purely dry sunny weekends every so often just to cruise about on and not go tear arsing round tracks. Thing is i simply love Ducati's, love the sound, the style, just love em! Of coarse i know they are powerful but do i want to wait until im old and grey until i can ride one? no i dont..thoughts on a postcard please :) Just so that you are aware i would also be looking into buying over the winter period to hopefully get a decent deal and then just keep her(or him) in my garage nice and warm with spit and polish until the summer months...i have a car for day to day stuff, want a bike (my dream bike) for me,,,, just for me!

physically i'd say you will have no problem handling the bike. just depends on how much you roll on the throttle though. as long as you dont act stupid sure you can handle it man.and i too admire the beauty and the sound of a nice ducati..good riding
don't know where you are but in Australia Yamaha make a bike trx850 its got a 90 degree opposed straight 2 cylinder motor sounds exactly like a duke and harley depending on what pipes you've got and there only 10000 new hew handles better in the traffic too and parts wont bankrupt you either
The Ducati you see tearing round the WSB race circuits is a million miles away from the Ducati you buy from the local dealer, the 749 is a joke bike, underpowered wheezy and unreliable with crap electrics and a service schedule that would leave the Queen skint, go for an ultra reliable CBR 600,R6 or any other Japanese sports bike.
if you have done a c.b.t course and pass your direct access motorcycle test you can ride any motorcyle as long as you are over 21 but i think the law is going to change and make it more complicated typical
I only rode a yamaha 125cc and a 250cc before my boyfriend bought me a motorcycle. I have a harley davidson 1200 sportster low 2006. I only rode his 250cc once before he bought me my own ride. Getting used to the weight difference was strange at first but outside of that no problems. I say go for what you want. My boyfriend rides a chopper and I ride a 1200 sporster. We go for rides with crotch rockets, choppers, ect. Ride safe. Ride to live and Live to ride. You only live once. I am always smiling when I am on my bike.
Do it, do it NOW! while you can.
Buy a Monster 750 or 900. The 600 is a little bit under powered.
If you don't buy one now the gov. will have made it illegal to think about a motorcycle let alone ride one, or you will have a wife and kids and the bike goes so far down the list of things you need as opposed to things you want its unreal.
I did the direct access course. Passed 2nd time. Got a ZX6. Never had a bike in my life before. I was 34 & female. never been so chuffed ever. I've now got a GSXR 600. Oh wot fun.
As long as you realise the power you have at your fingertips and make sure you get used to the delivery of the power and handling of the bike first, don't go mad. I bought my husband a 916 and he has been riding many many years and he still had to get used to the way the power was delivered. He spend the first couple of rides with the front wheel skywards ! Unfortunately the 916 may have to go due to moving house.
