Will obd1 interface work with an obd2 scanner?

I'm trying to connect a '98 bmw round connector to an obd2 scanner.

Answers:
The round connector under the hood on BMW cars in the US is not for OBD. All OBD connectors are in the car. If you are trying to hook up a diagnostic tool that does the whole car thats the round plug under the bonnet (hood here in the us). OBD only does emission related, while the round diagnostic port did everything. OBD2 plugs are not round they are trapezoid so you can only hook it up one way.
98 should be obd2..did you look under the dash.drivers side?
98 is obd2 compliant. Your car has at least global obd2 communication, you just have to find the datalink. If you give me more specifics I can look it up for you(is it a 3series etc.)

sounds like you need a scantool with european capabilities in that case, you can try baum diagnostics and there are several others with those capabilities
definatly more money than brains, to answer your question "no!" leave the mechanicin' to the mechanics. DUH!
