Volvo s40 are they a good car and whats your opinion?

Answers:
I have the V40 which is the estate version of the S40 and cannot find a bad word to say about it. if you are looking at a second hand one, which i persume you are then you should make sure that the service is up to date, much with any car. i would strongly recomend Volvo's to anyone though.
I always liked them, they are a little different than the rest of the bubble cars such as the Taurus.
it all depend on what year the older volvos were not that good the newer ones are better 94 and under no good
I would avoid Volvos. Ever since FORD bought them, quality and even safety has gone down the drain.
Wait until you have to buy spares - Howwwww Muchhhhhh
good car - reliable but not as good as the older models

Audi's and VW's are better!
there great little dependable cars with great gas milage
Volvo S40 is safest small sedan and gets better mpg so you should get one if you want to payless for gas.
good ncap rating; built like a brick but not so pretty
I have an 02 S40 1.9T old style and I love it, it is powerful, roomy, classy, comfortable, anyway it is perfect! of course as a Volvo for life customer what can i say? I also own an S60 beautiful too! The vehicle will give you the best performance if you use the best fuel at the pomp because when you have a turbo you gotta treat it like a turbo. My S40 has all I need to feel happy! I have seen the new S40 and I like them too however I would not change the one I have even when I like the front end better in the new ones but a Volvo is a Volvo.
decent enough car buy as late a model as you can afford, some of the engines shared with renault in the earlier cars.
Ignore claims that they have gone to pot since being under Ford ownership, some people shouldnt have access to a keyboard if all they can do is talk crap.
We have an s-40 2000 that we bought for our son! It is a nightmare! One problem after another and parts are out of sight but that is nothing compared the mechanics fee. Volvo is a difficult car to work on and you will not find many reputable mechanics. The dealership is out of sight once you are past the warranty. Run don't walk away from buying one!
