Car insurance on rentals?

do i have to do the insurance myself or do the rental company do this for me?

Answers:
Most rental agencies require full coverage insurance. If you have full coverage insurance on your personal vehicle, it usually will transfer to the rental, but check with your agent to be sure. However, if you have just liability insurance on your personal car, then only liability will transfer to the rental. The rental company will likely require you to purchase a temporary plan for comp and collision from them. But like I said, always check with your agent first.
If you have insurance on your personal vehicle, it will also cover you while traveling in a rental, so you don't really need the insurance offered by rental car companies. If you have a horrible driving record, are accident prone or are driving a rather expensive rental a long ways, you might consider taking it from the rental company.
You should check with your insurance agent. Most policies will cover a rental. Also, If you use an American Express Card, their buyer protection plan usually covers a rental as well.
