Driving in UK. can it get worse?

I drove 10.000 miles in and around europe recently, through France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Malta.. returning to UK felt like entering an over policed state, traffic cameras and cones, rules and regulations.. I think you need to drive abroad to realise how bad it is in UK..

Answers:
We live in a nanny state.
i totally agree, car owners seem to be just another source of revenue for our government, any how they can make money out of you, they will!
Parking fines, speed fines, any way they can! It will get worse when they introduce congestion charges outside of London. And believe me, its coming.
It can and it will.

Number plate recognition cameras linked with speed control -- already starting to be seen with the 'average speed zones' on some motorway works will spread everywhere.

Chips in the will identify location of vehicle, generating automatic payments for road use and congestion charging.

And add to that the forecasted hundreds of thousands of new vehicles on the roads .
Better to be over safe than sorry. Currently living in Shanghai and the drivers here are so bad I fear for my life everytime I get into a taxi or cross the streets.
seriously,, you should try Australia, we have road rules but the police cant uphold them. The only thing they book you for is speeding with speed cameras and running a red with their redlight cameras,, other than that do as you please. In the Northern territory there are no speed limits on out of town roads, so go for your life there.
yeah ive drove the same distance and nearly the same places..the road signs here though are sooooo much better. They just cant handle that one over there.
Do you know they conducted an experiment in germany were they took all the traffic lights out of a town and there was no accidents for ages! go figure!
I live in Greece where there is absolutely NO traffic control. No police, no cameras.Result: we are the 2nd highest country in the EU in terms of traffic accidents. The situation in any road can only be described as a complete mess.

So, I think that you are still better off in the UK.
Having been driving here only a short time, I am appalled by the lack of courtesy to other drivers and to pedestrians.
Of Course if you obey the rules then you won't get fined.

If you are refering to the speed cameras and cones at roadworks try standing at the side of a busy dual carridgeway - you'll soon see why they are there.
And it will only get worse when this interferring, anti car government bring in mileage road charges which are satellite controlled. They will not only charge us for every mile we drive but they will know every move we make. They will also brainwash us all into thinking that they are GIVING us something by abolishing road tax and reducing the price of petrol but someone who does a fair amount of miles will soon be well out of pocket. Also ,they will then re introduce another form of "road tax" because they will realised that licence discs are the way they ensure people have mot's and insurance . As for the lowered fuel price.. well it will be jacked up again won't it ? Guess who will be the losers in all this ?
Yep and I heard MOT is now £50 - rip off
