Do I tell DVLA that I have had windows blacked out on a vehicle?
Answers:
Not sure check out their website for this, but may not be good when it comes to the MOT as I have read there are limits on light being blocked out for safety etc
NO BUT YOU DO HAVE TO TELL YOUR INSURANCE COY AND MAKE SURE THAT IT IS NOT DARKER THAN THE REGULATIONS FOR WINDOWS.30% TINT I THINK
if the front window doesn't let 70% light through it's illegal and you could get three points on your license
something you should note;
The law says all drivers' windscreens must let in 75 per cent of the light, while for side windows it is 70 per cent.
They must also allow people, especially the police, to see inside.
If this is not the case you could get stopped by the police.
As with anything like this, if you are unsure, you should tell them anyway that way you can't be in the wrong. If you like, do it anonymously on their help line. Might have been better to check before hand though!
Ask the police first , but i would say that is a good idea just to cover your **** , just in case..!
You do not have to tell the DVLA about tinted windows but you do have to adhere to their guidance on this.
You must however inform your insurance as they will void your insurance if you have a crash. The chances are that if you tell them you have fitted legal tints then your premium will not go up.
Legal tints are, on the front side windows they must be 35% light transmission, this is the amount of light that is passed through window film. On the rear side windows and the rear window you can have whatever shade tints you like. And of course no tint on the front.
