Would my V reg Astra 1.4 make a good Tow car?
Answers:
check the kerb-weight, and the recommendation is not to tow more than 85% of that. There are some very light caravans but your more likely to find that a trailer tent is more likely to be within your limits. You should find what the towing limits for your particular version of Astra in the owners handbook.. Engine size is not a factor (although bigger is better !), its the kerb-weight that is important.
For towing boxes of marshmallows I can think of no finer vehicle.
It depends on what you're towing. I'd never tow a trailer-full of stuff using anything smaller than a 1.6, you risk burning out the clutch if you do.
possibly, as the lower litres may have a higher torque than a 2.0 litre for example. However it depends on whether its a diesel or a petrol, Diesel 1.4 shouldn't have any problems but a petrol might struggle.
yes
No ..too small ..all you will do is burn the clutch out.
What are you towing? check in your book what weight your car is and it will tell you what you can tow if not phone up the makers of your car they will tell but if you want to tow a caravan no chance
Not the one i would choose it all depends on what you are going to tow.Ok for light loads for short distances. Regards mick.
hmm, another top gear fan huh?! it was inevitable that the caravan was gonna end up destroyed. :)
It would be fine provided you did not go up any hills, flat only.
i would say no,,,,, it will pull a caravan but it may be very dodgy to stop
only for a very light trailer, if you need to tow a caravan or something similar you need something bigger, heavier and with a torquier engine, you need the power to get you out of swaying and other problems
It would make a very good car to tow. Personally I think that all Astras should only be towed around and no one should be allowed to drive them.
Might if you were towing a cardboard box on wheels; otherwise , forget it. Underpowered to start with, you will kill your car if you tow with it. Over 2 ltr. engine you should be ok depending on weight. Even a small trailer would be too much for your car.
