Am investing in a new car, BMW estate or Mercedes?

i work for merc in the workshop i would not own one as i know how bad they really are. i drive a BMW because when Ive finished work the last think i want is to fix my own car.
What is a BMW estate? I would go with the Mercedes.
my dads had both the bmw has better features but i will always love the benz

More problems with Mercedes as far as rankings for reliability. BMW a much better buy.

You cant "invest in a new car"not an estate you could think of anyway, save your pretencious money and get a second hand one( I wont tell anyone if you dont!)
new cars are a waste of money. the car loses value once it leaves the dealership.

Mercedes isn't what it used to be. I went to the car show and Daimler-Chrysler is starting to get cheap with the parts they use in the Mercedes.
Personally I'd look at a BMW, or even a Lexus.
Everybody knows that a benz is an old person car say over 35 or40, its comfortable, smooth, so if your older as i said go for the benz, but build quality has been a big issue, bmw a real drivers car, firmer ride, but there very reliable if looked after.
Don't like the pedal set up in the early benzs, like the bmw truck type accelerator. Only the really souped benzs have a pedal like this.

I had a bmw and now have a mercedes. both are good but for some reason I like the mercedes a lot better.
Worked on both makes, Maybe 10 years or so ago, i would have said buy the Merc but the quality has dipped badly over the last few years, especially with some of the models built in South Africa. Have you ever noticed how many 3-5 year old Mercs show blistering with rust,ie around the locks and on the lower edge of the front wings on the C and E class. Shouldnt happen on a modern car. The BMW is a better bet, if your heart is set on some one of these marques. Just another bit of useless info but the Honda Accord recently beat the new 3 series fairly comprehensively in a head to head test. Alot less money and hold their value well, especially the CDTI which is a cracking car. Bottom line is that a new car is not much of an investment, it,ll lose at least a grand the minute it is registered. Good luck, its a nice position to be in.

A BMW will hold their value better than a Benz. Especially since now a days MBenz has been having to repair many glitches on their new line up of vehicles. They should have never teamed up with Chrysler.
BMWs are the "Ultimate Driving Machine". It the ultimate driving experience with its road hugging suspension, access to unbelievable horsepower and torque, and sleek racing design.
The thing I love about BMW is that their designs never get old. You can own a 1999 BMW and people would think its new, so you'd get a better resale value.
On the other hand Mercedes design team changes designs ever couple years making all past designs obsolete. There is a huge difference between their 2004 fleet and their 2006-2007 arsenal.
I have really started to appreciate Mercedes-Benz for their notorious AMGs with the V10s and V12s either supercharged or bi-turbocharged pushing 500-600hp.
But then again the new M5s and M6s do push out 500 hp on a 5.0L V10 naturally aspirated with a 7 speed SMG transmission.
In conclusion BMW is a far better choice because their designs don't grow old fast and they are not recklessly installing V10s,V12s,superchargers, and turbos in ever car they get their hands on.
