Importation of Foreign Used Motorcycles in India?
If so what are the import rules to bring them in, rules on opening a business in India and availability of local expertise i.e mechanics etc.
Answers:
Over 90% of motorcycles sold in India are less than 250cc. They need to be basic, simple to work on and capable of running on very poor quality fuel - not applicable to your average superbike.!
Indian mechanics are incredible to watch: they can strip, repair and rebuild a bike whilst working with minimal tools, quite often just at the side of the road. Their ingenuity and skill at keeping bikes going with limited equipment and facilities is fascinating.
If someone wants a larger capacity bike, they can import from Japan at far cheaper prices than you can sell them from the west.
