Are saved addresses on a car onboard sat nav deleted when the car battery is removed or is there a backup?

I guess it depends, but I know that it is saved in the BMW.
They are def. saved on my Panasonic 2300
don't know but be save buy a mapbook
I have TOM TOM ,all addresses are saved until you delete them.
