"Doors to automatic" what does that mean or airliners?

I think an airline captain or stewardess is best placed to explain the meaning of this request. Also, why to the lights have to be dimmed for take off, and landing.

Just curious, thanks

Answers:
Doors to automatic means that the aircrafts electrics have taken over the responsibility of use of the doors if there is an emergency ie the slides will automatically be inflated in an emergency.
Also lights dimming for take off and landing (only happens in times of darkness ie early moning evening and night ) is because these are the most dangerous periods of the flight, it takes the human eye up to 15 mins to adjust to darkness and if there is an emergency during take off and landing the passengers eyes are adjusted to the dimmed light on board, i hope this kinda answers your question babe
Doors to automatic means that they're locked for flight, however, if they are opened then the escape chute will automatically deploy.

I think they dim the lights so that passengers can see what is going on outside, could be wrong here though.
Used to work for a company that manufactured automatic locks for airline doors. The locks are designed to stay locked if it is too dangerous to open the door. No suicidal nut is going to open the door and endanger any one.
Doors to Automatic (Or arming/disarming doors) means that when the door is opened the slide will automatically deploy, except on an airbus where if the door is opened from the outside the slide doesn't deploy. As for the lights, it's to accustomize your eyes to low light levels in the case you need to do an evacuation without working lights.
