Driving along motorway at night, I hit lorryswheel left on carrageway.is lorry insurance responcible?

what if it was the tyre only? why don't police tell me?

Answers:
If you can ID the person who the lorry belonged to and you have a police report to back it your insurance company should and probably will seek subrogation from the owner of the lorry or from their insurance company.
If you hit the other vehicle, more than likely you'll be at fault. If the other driver did something - like swerve into you - they may be at fault.
If it was left on the carriageway, you probably wont know which or who's lorry it came from, if this is the case you have no one to claim off. You'll probably have to claim off your own insurance.
Hard lines mate. Lots of them about. Police won't help on anything unless they're going to get their conviction rate up. 'fraid you'll end up paying.
only if you managed to get all the details of the driver and you have witness, otherwise no
