What happens if you arrive at a motorway toll booth and find you have no money?
Answers:
in the UK certain drivers (eg disabled) qualify for free tolls due to act of parliament and they can just claim their free toll.
otherwise you can :-
turn back and be escorted along the access roads
or
leave your Name and address (after showing proof) and be billed later for a large admin fee.
If you are Female you Flash your Boobs and smile and wave as you pass through!
There is only one toll motorway in the UK and at that one you can pay by card.

On the severn bridge you have to turn back - cash only
you need to ask for money from people, not in a beging way say you will pay them back give them your number, no one will be that tight surely. i would give you some, just out of kindness.

I guess they will take your reg number and send you an invoice. They may even charge you extra as a fine or for the admin of the inconvenience. It is not as if you can turn around, there would be no place to and even if you did turn round you would be traveling in the wrong direction of the traffic.
The Severn Bridge is cash only (I don't know anything about the M6 toll road) so it could be quite embarassing! If you use the Old Severn Bridge they will probably make you park up and walk over to the Services to use the cash machine there, there may be an escape road for you to turn around too. As for the Second Severn Crossing I suppose they must have some escape roads or take your details or something like that. I've never tried it myself though!
I think they should install card machines there now especially as it is virtually £5 now.
In the event this happens, the toll controller has discretion to take whatever action they feel acceptable. From my experience, they take your vehicle and personal details and they send you a bill with a service charge (about £20) added to cover their costs.
If you belong to a minority, your ok. If not you should know better.
