What's the cheapest was of transporting my broken down Range Rover from Reading to Wickford, Essex?

Can broke down Tuesday. It's in Reading and I need to get it back. It's a total non-runner and I want to get a local mechanic to look at it. I'm not in the AA or RAC.

Answers:
join britannia rescue now then phone them in 2 days and say you've broke down they'll then take it home for you (plus they're cheaper than the aa/rac and green flag)

p.s i'm a landrover series 3 owner and have done this previously
in a dump truck
Ask a local with a big truck who's heading the same way to lend you a hand. Then hitch up your Rover. Then at least offer to pay for the gas, or lunch or whatever.
like me chop it up and mail it to them
Find a friend who is a member. Get them to come along with you and call the AA out as if you had broken down a few hours ago.
Say that you went for breakfast as he may wonder why the engine is cold. Make sure that their membership has roadside included.
go to the scrapyard, have them grind it down to a fine powder, then have a short service for it, scatter the ashes. cut your losses
Get a friend or neighbour to tow you back. Offer to pay for the fuel used.
Find somebody with a large American pick up such as a Dodge ram charger agree a price then hire a four wheel trailer obviously with a winch fitted then drive to reading at a mutually convenient time hitch up the Rangey to the winch then do the obvious thing
